Reminder...

Saw this photo online today and it reminded me that you just have to get out there sometimes. You just have to risk. Life can be safe however the best things in life often involve some risk. So like a ship you have to leave the harbor and sail the sea.

Somewhere Beautiful

A song came on tonight that got me to thinking about being on the coast of somewhere beautiful like this...

A secluded beach on the Mexican island of Cozumel.
Or to be here off the coast of somewhere beautiful...

Diving off the coast of Ambergris Caye, an island of Belize.

Full of Nurse Sharks, Fish and Sting Ray. It is somewhere beautiful!

Or here...
The Mayan City of Tulum just over an hour out of Cancun, Mexico. It is perched on the cliffs of somewhere beautiful.

A Girlfriend?!

I've talked about them before...my deer. I live on a bluff so the area towards the water is very much the way God intended it to be, natural. Trees, bushes and lots of greenery. This also means there is wildlife. Mainly a few deer and some quail. For the first 3 summers living on the bluff There was a Mama deer that each spring gave birth to twin fawns. Last spring being her last set before she was killed. They are a pair of identical male twins. The photo below is them snacking on the blackberry bushes.

So adorable with their white spots!

Now here they are tonight near the apple trees. I love them for this snacking as they save me from having to pick up the fallen apples! They were "sharing" the last fallen apple. Now just over a year old they are still together. Occasionally I spot them with their half brother from the year before who is just over two years old.

Now enter the newest addition...one of the boys got a girlfriend!!! ;)
Only has eyes for one of them too!

The three of them together this evening.
( The deer looking at the camera is not the one that has caught the girl's eye. )
I can't help but check on them and worry about them when I see them. Come fall I like to see that they have eaten well during the summer and have a good coat so I know they will make it through the winter. This is why I don't hunt. I suppose if I was starving I could do it, however I think I would become a vegetarian first! LOL!

Happy Dog

Rom is 12 and for the last few months he has mostly been confined to the main floor of our multi-level home. He can't or I should say won't do the stairs anymore. He is able to go down fine and does require assistance going up, but really doesn't like it. So the difficult call was made that he would stay on the main floor which allows him access to the fenced back yard but not the bedrooms or the family room in the basement.

Well a couple of weeks ago my husband began building a new deck in the fenced back yard. This has been planned for some time because we realized after removing some trees that there was quite a view to be had from that area and a deck would be nice. My husband took Rom into consideration while building this deck and designed steps that he can climb. They are 2 feet deep. The depth of the each step allows Rom to climb them one at a time without any outside assistance. Rom now has the freedom to go for a walk around the block or just climb up there and survey his domain.

Getting ready to smile for the camera! ;)

Smiling while surveying his domain

Just happy to be up on the deck!

Too Much Time On Your Hands

I now know how to tell when you have too much time on your hands. It is when a perfectly good hobby such as knitting gets out of control and you cover a bike! ;)

Yep that is a whole bike, tires and all, in a knit sweater. I applaud the talent. I was left wondering as I stood outside the shop in Victoria, Canada though if maybe a new hobby shouldn't be suggested. If everyone in your life has a sweater and you have resorted to covering your bicycle perhaps you should take up painting or invest in cooking classes.

A close up of the seat. It really was well done.

The West End

My friend Leslie is visiting and wanted to go experience Forks as she has read the Twilight Saga of books as have I. Forks used to be this sleepy little town that I'd drive through on my way to the Hoh Rain Forest or to grab lunch at one my very favorite diners. Ever had a fresh banana milkshake? Well there used to be a place in Forks that made them from scratch and they were worth the 45 minute drive. Now of course Forks is famous for Bella Swan and Edward Cullen.

So we drove west.

Here we are coming into Forks. If you have seen the movie you know that it starts with them crossing a large bridge over a river. Well you do cross a bridge to come into Forks. It is however a much smaller bridge over a river.

If you have seen the movie you know that they recreated this sign exactly for the movie.

The real high school - currently undergoing some work

Bella Swan's truck

Finally we have Newton's Outfitters' - In real life it is Forks Outfitters.

On Fire

Well not literally! The sky was filled with such color yesterday evening that it seemed as though it was on fire.

The sunset from Ediz Hook

The sunset reflecting off the snow on Hurricane Ridge behind Port Angeles.

We are creeping up on our longest day of the year as well. I was taking these photos between 9:20 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. Love these long days of summer. It makes up for the horribly short ones of winter where it feels like the sun shines for about 15 minutes and then it sets.

A Dinosaur

My current, and I guess last, Mercury.

Well you can tell from the photo I'm not really talking about a dinosaur. However Ford Motor Company has announced that they are going to stop producing the Mercury label. This makes my car a bit like a Dinosaur, the last of its kind. I've been a licensed driver now for 17 years and minus one year where I drove a Jeep Wrangler, I've always driven a Mercury. I can't hardly imagine not driving one. I tend to get in a car and fall in love with it, not wanting to part with it. I like knowing how it handles, where are the buttons are and even why it might have a nick or two in the paint. Now I'm really not going to want to part with my Mercury this time around. She is still lovely and I'm going to be even more attached to her now.

Me with my original Mercury, a 1990 Mercury Topaz XR5, as a teenager. I drove 90,000 miles in that Mercury.

Perfection

To me this is just almost perfection all in one photo. You see I have a thing for mountains and those just happen to be some of my very favorite mountains, the Olympic Mountains. I also have a thing for ferry boats. Snow capped Olympic Mountains and a ferry arriving the Coleman Dock in Seattle, yes that is a small bit of perfection. At least in my world.

The use of a Cheerleader

Is there a proper way to use a cheerleader in a music video? When I think of a cheerleader in a music video MICKEY from the 1980s jumps to mind. Now I've seen this one from Ryan Star and I have to say the cheerleaders though unexpected do add energy to the video. So I suppose this would be the proper use of a cheerleader in a music video?? Yes? I liked it. Ryan Star is really showing some promise as well. I like his song Breathe too.
